Advocacy win ~ birth registrations!
In response to ongoing advocacy from the Foster Care Association of Victoria (FCAV), the Department of Families Fairness and Housing (DFFH) has developed new birth registration and birth certificate acquisition performance standards which will mean that no child in care will be without a birth certificate. DFFH will now require all children in care to have a birth certificate on file.Read more...

Access to universal health services through Medicare is essential for all children. The FCAV is aware that many carers experience significant delays in getting a Medicare number/card and in many instances pay for medical services themselves. CIMS support update
The client incident management system (CIMS) was implemented in January 2018 across all department-funded organisations, including out-of-home care providers. CIMS focuses on the safety and wellbeing of clients and outlines what needs to happen when an incident occurs that alleges abuse, unexplained injury or poor quality of care of a child or young person in out-of-home care.Read more...

Extension of the CAP
The FCAV is so pleased that the recent State budget included a contribution to fund the extension of the Carer Assistance Program, which together with a generous grant from the RO Fund, a sub-fund of the Australian Communities Foundation allows the FCAV to continue to provide free and tailored therapeutic support to carer's mental health, filling a significant gap in the support and well-being needs of our foster carers.
