Premier Daniel Andrews has announced that children in Victorian government schools will move to remote and flexible learning at the commencement of term 2, next Wednesday 15 April 2020.
Provision for a limited number of students to attend school for learning and care will continue at most government schools. Eligible students are those whose parents or carers work in essential services and cannot work from home and for children identified as vulnerable. Contact your agency and your school to find out more about this option.
The government has committed to loan more than 6,000 laptops and tablets to students, as well as deliver 5,000 free SIM cards and dongles to support internet access.
If you have a school aged child in your care and you’re concerned about the resources required to facilitate their online learning including a suitable device or computer or internet access, as outlined in our update last week carers can access additional support during the COVID-19 restrictions.
Contact your agency support worker to enquire about access to funding such as placement support, client expenses and kinship brokerage funding, in addition to the care allowance.
If negotiations with your agency are not successful please contact the FCAV and we will ensure your query is attended to as a matter of priority.
No child in care should be without a computer or device and the internet to access online learning.
